Custom ribbon flights are Reinke & Schomann, Inc.’s forte, and we have been creating them for over eight decades for different applications across various industries. In addition, we make them in other materials, primarily mild steel, stainless steel, Inconel, Hastelloy, abrasion-resistant alloys, and nickel alloys.
We have the in-house capabilities to fabricate and manufacture ribbon flights for a ribbon flight conveyor. Therefore, we can customize them according to the needs and specifications of your industry. May it be for equipment mixers, scum skimmers, stack strakes, spiral let-down chutes, blender blades, and more.
For over eight decades, Reinke & Schomann, Inc. has been a leading manufacturer of high quality custom metal components for industrial machinery. We specialize in the engineering and fabrication of custom ribbon flights for effective use in food equipment mixers, scum skimmers, stack strakes, spiral let down chutes, blender blades, and many other applications. Our advanced machining equipment and methods allow us to produce continuous helicoid flights, centerless chip screws, and spirals in right and left hand directions. We provide flights with integrated spokes and radial spokes. Flighting materials include mild steel, stainless steel, Monel, Inconel, Hastelloy, abrasion resistant alloys, and nickel alloys. Parts can be treated for abrasion, corrosion, and heat resistance, and finished with flame spray or galvanizing. We are adept at producing nonstandard sizes up to 18′ (5486mm) in diameter, lengths up to 60′ (18,300mm), and thicknesses up to 1.5″ (38.1mm). All units are manufactured holding tight tolerances exceeding CEMA standards.
Our services include build to print capabilities, assembly, and system integrations. We handle low volume production levels with a focus on quality and customer service. For more information about our custom ribbon flight manufacturing service or the other bulk handling conveyor component solutions we offer, please see the table below or contact us directly.
What are ribbon flights?
Ribbon flights have a smooth, ribbon-like surface ideal for screw conveyors because it allows for easy and efficient transportation of materials. In addition, ribbon flight conveyors have a continuous helical flight formed from a bar. After that, it’s secured to the pipe with lugs.
Screw conveyors that handle sticky bulk materials can benefit from ribbon flights because they can minimize the build-up of sticky and viscous material. Ribbon flights work well due to the space between the pipe and the flight.
How do ribbon flights work?
Ribbon flights work by rotating within the conveyor, which in turn transports the material. As the ribbon flight rotates, it creates a vacuum that pulls the material up the screw conveyor.
The ribbon flight can rotate smoothly and efficiently because of its design. The ribbon-like surface allows for slight resistance, while the continuous helical flight provides support and stability.

The advantages of ribbon flights
Many types of flights are available, but ribbon flights have many advantages that make them ideal for use in ribbon flight conveyors.
- Ribbon flights can efficiently transport sticky and viscous materials without the material building up and sticking to the flight.
- Ribbon flights can withstand high temperatures and pressures, making them ideal for use in industrial settings. So they are very durable and sturdy.
- Ribbon flights have a smooth surface; there is no need to worry about the material building up and causing problems. Therefore, they are very low maintenance and easy to clean compared to other flights.
- Ribbon flights are very versatile and can be customized. So we can create ribbon flights in low volumes to ensure the quality before delivering them to you.
